Introduction to Pottery
I offer introductory pottery lessons for up to three people in my garden studio. You can learn basic hand building techniques and have a go at throwing on the potter's wheel. At the end of the lesson you will have created two pieces that I will then glaze, fire and post to you.
Sessions are two and a half hours long and are available via arrangement. I am flexible on times and days so please get in contact.
Individual lesson £65, 2 people £42.50 each, 3 people £40 each.
Family lessons
Having worked as a primary school teacher for a decade I saw first hand the importance of art and creation in children’s lives. This session offers a chance to slow down, reconnect, and explore the joy of clay with your children.
Each person will learn a basic hand building technique as well as having the opportunity to have a go at throwing on the potter's wheel. Each person can choose their favourite two pieces for me to glaze, fire and then post to you.
You may decide to take this time to create alongside your child, but if you would just like to book the session for your child/ren then that is also possible. I am fully DBS checked but due to the studio being a working space child/ren must be accompanied and supervised by an adult for the whole session.
Family of two £60, Family of three £75, Family of four £100
Workshops and Social Sessions
Take time to slow and down and reconnect with friends in a different way. Making with clay and chatting with friends can be a really lovely and unique way to spend time together.
This is your chance to plan your own workshop. We can discuss ideas on what you would like to make, and then you find the place; your home, a garden or a community space and I’ll come along with all the equipment. I will then glaze and fire all your pieces and return them to the organiser.
Price is dependent on the number of people and what you would like to make. As a rough guide, six people each hand building 3 small bowls would be £40 per person.
Pots in The Peaks
Do you love the outdoors and want to try something a bit different?
Take inspiration from the majestic peaks in this outdoor workshop. I will meet your group at Higgor Tor and then take you on a short (roughly 20 minute) walk to a nice spot with a great view. I will bring everything you need to make three pinch pots each. You are also more than welcome to bring a picnic or drinks and nibbles. It is such a lovely opportunity to sit, chat and create whilst taking in the wonder of nature.
I will glaze and fire the pots and return them to the organiser.
At the moment I run these groups as a group booking experience, which means that you would be responsible for gathering your group of friends and choosing two possible dates (the second one is just in case the first one gets rained off), the organiser then contacts me with the dates, once we’ve agreed, we meet at Higgor Tor (a 15-20 minute drive into the Peak District from Sheffield).
4 people £55 each, 5 people £50 each, 6 people £45 each
“I spent a morning with Clare learning to use the wheel – I was a complete beginner and came away with some beautiful bowls! It was very enjoyable and Clare was a great teacher. She showed me various techniques and it was really rewarding once I’d got the hang of it. I’d love to come back and give it another go!”
